Sharing the Heart of an Eagle with Others, All In For Him!
In the News
CW Channel 33 TV News created a short video of our POPCS students working hard making shoes for kids in Uganda. Click on the link to watch the video of our kids serving others through Christ:http://cw33.com/2017/01/25/students-make-shoes-their-sole-mission-for-kids-in-africa/ Or watch us on a clip from the Plano Star Courier.
Collection of the jeans for Sole Hope will run for the whole month of December. During Lutheran Schools Week in January teams of students will trace and cut out shoe patterns from the donated jeans. Our December Chapel offerings will pay for postage to send the cut patterns to Uganda where the shoes will be locally manufactured.
Save your old or too-small jeans! Starting in December, our full school community will participate in a service project entitled Sole Hope. Students will be asked to bring in old jeans, which will then be sent to Uganda to be crafted into shoes. The hearts behind Sole Hope is a “heart given by God,” and their mission is to put in place preventable methods to combat diseases that enter through the feet and create a positive difference in the lives of individuals in impoverished communities. Look for more news on this wonderful service opportunity soon – including a “cutting party” after the new year – and start saving those jeans! To learn more about Sole Hope visit www.solehope.org.
2016-2017 service was working with Seven Loaves, our long-standing service partner. They needed our help over Thanksgiving. POPCS Middle School and High School families partnered with Seven Loaves to help feed 1000+ deserving families in Colling County with a full Thanksgiving meal. Families filled a bag (or two) with all the ‘fixins’ to feed a family in need on Thanksgiving. Seven Loaves provided the turkeys and together we all helped feed families.
Empty Bag Pick Up Locations: For those interested, extra bags are available near the Shop-for-POP window, in Mrs. Chase and Mrs. Dwyer’s rooms (MS), in the HS office and in all HS theology classrooms.
Items needed: Stuffing mix (box), sweet potatoes, mac and cheese (box), mashed potatoes (box) and cornbread mix.
Monetary Donations: This year we’ve included an option to “Top Off” your pantry bag with a monetary donation to be used towards Christmas gift cards for all the pantry children.
If you also have ELC, PS or LS Students: Please feel free to contribute to this service or to the POPLC food drive, as you feel so led.
Thank you for supporting our local families in need! To learn about Seven Loaves visit www.7loavescommunity.org.
If you have any questions regarding either of these projects please contact PTF Community Service Coordinator, Kim Millea.
